History
North’s Maori Rugby League was incorporated as a non-profit organization in September 2004. Since that time the club has proved to be successful both on the field and in the community. The results on the field have been hard fought with much hard work being done behind the scenes to make it all happen.
The concept is a great one where teams from “e nga hau e wha” the four winds come together to compete in a straight knockout tournament. NSW Maori Rugby League Inc. is the umbrella organization that is affiliated to New Zealand Maori Rugby League through New Zealand Rugby League.
North’s has been very fortunate to have the coaching services of Mark “horrible” Horo who has a great record before joining with North’s and has continued to keep that record with us. Mark communicates with each member of his team and guides them into becoming part of an overall structure that has made a big impression on North’s performance over the last three years.
In 2005 North's took out the tournament with an unprecedented score of 54 - 12 against Easts. In 2006 North's Maori Rugby League managed once again to make the Grand Final.
2007 saw North’s take a “clean sweep” winning the best haka as well as the grand final. It was a year that everything came together again off the field and transformed into dividends on the field.
Last year after a shaky start we were able to make the grand final and come away with another win. The competition is always tough and in 2008 again it was about sticking with the gameplan and completing the sets.
The 2009 tournament is set for Saturday October the 3rd and will promise once again to bring some of the best spectacles in the game of league and Maori culture you are likely to witness anywhere.
